Ive been playing Resistance Burning Skies for a while now on the PS Vita and just have to say, I’m not sure what game some of these “Pro” reviewers were playing. Resistance is not a bad game at all. Sure, theres nothing innovative about it, but lets be honest, no FPS (First person shooter) has really been innovative over the past 5 years or so, with the exception of Battlefield 3. The Call Of Duty series has had zero innovation over the past 5 years and they still give the game favorable reviews, every time. Resistance does nothing truly innovating, but it does stick to the FPS script fairly well, making for a good game.
For anyone out there still on the fence about Resistance Burning Skies, I personally think its well worth the $35 download!
To put it simply, Resistance is the best FPS ever to be released on a portable system! Ive heard some say NOVA may be better, let me just tell you, that is simply laughable.
The control is spot on in Resistance thanks to the Vita’s twin analog sticks! The first ever portable FPS to have twin stick controls available!
The graphics are some of the best yet to be seen in an FPS on a portable device.
The lighting in this game is simply the best lighting you’ve ever seen in a portable game. From bloom lighting, to some great textures throughout, and one of a kind physics, there really hasn’t been a better looking FPS game on a handheld.period.
Ive heard complaints in some of these reviews about the sound. I used my Bose Bluetooth Soundlink speaker, and halfway through playing I switched to headphones. Again, I must say it, there is no FPS on the market anywhere that has better sound than this game. No game sounds good using the PS Vita’s puny built in speakers, but with a decent pair of headphones or external speakers, this game rocks the joint! The orchestral music is some of the best music Ive yet to hear from a portable gaming console. Whats better though, is that the music only plays during certain times in the game, most times though, there is no music at all. Some reviewers complained about this, saying that the game was too quiet. I personally think it helps set the tone in the game! When all you hear is the sound of your footsteps and the growl of the Chimera in the distance, thats not a bad thing, its actually a little creepy and helps pull you into the experience. And the weapon sounds are excellent as well, just wait till you hear the shotgun/crossbow!
Ive actually had a lot of fun with the game thus far. I like the way some of the touch features work with the game as well. Using the touch screen to place a thrown grenade works well and being that it slows down time just a tad, helps to make throwing grenades more accurate than some silly line with a reticle at the end. Or aiming the camera up and hitting a button. The few touch control options that exist in the game do work well and bring the fun factor up a notch too.
The campaign alone is worth the price of admission, but the fact that the game has online multiplayer with up to 8 players is another selling point that can’t be looked over. This game brings console quality FPS action straight into the palm of your hand, no other portable FPS has ever been able to say that.
Resistance for the PS Vita is a straightforward FPS that looks and plays great. If you own a PS Vita, you should ignore 90% of the reviews on the internet and at least download the demo to give it a try for yourself. Its a good all around first person shooter and the best Ive ever played on a portable device.
